If there is one international trip that Telugu families from Hyderabad keep coming back to us for, it is Singapore and Malaysia combined. And it is not hard to understand why.
Two countries. One trip. A short flight from Hyderabad. No visa required for Malaysia. Incredible food that feels genuinely familiar to South Indian palates. World-class attractions from Universal Studios to the Petronas Twin Towers. And a budget that works for a much wider range of families than Europe or America.
Singapore and Malaysia together is what we call the perfect first international trip — and also one of the most satisfying repeat trips for experienced travellers who want something different every time.
This guide is written specifically for travellers from Hyderabad, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Everything from flight options to visa requirements, the best time to travel, what to see in each destination, and the honest total budget — is written for someone sitting in Hyderabad planning this trip right now.
Why Singapore and Malaysia Work So Well Together
Singapore and Malaysia share a border. The two countries are connected by a land bridge, and most travellers combine them in a single itinerary because getting from one to the other is straightforward and inexpensive. You can travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore by coach, by budget airline, or by train — all at very reasonable cost.
The contrast between the two destinations is also what makes the combination so satisfying. Singapore is one of the most futuristic, organised and efficiently run cities on earth. Everything works. The MRT is spotless. The streets are immaculate. The food courts are extraordinary. Gardens by the Bay at night looks like nothing else in Asia. Universal Studios Singapore on Sentosa Island is a world-class theme park that families genuinely love.
Malaysia is warmer, louder, more chaotic and more colourful in every sense. Kuala Lumpur has the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the extraordinary Batu Caves Hindu temple, and some of the best street food in Southeast Asia. The Genting Highlands — a mountain resort above the clouds at over 1,800 metres — is a genuinely unique experience that surprises every traveller who visits for the first time.
Together, the two countries deliver a range of experiences that would cost three times as much in Europe or Japan.
Visa Requirements for Indians in 2026
This is one of the most important practical aspects of this trip and the news is very good for Indian passport holders.
Malaysia has extended its visa waiver for Indian nationals until December 2026. This means Indians can enter Malaysia for tourism for up to 30 days completely free of charge. You do not need to apply for a visa, pay any fee or visit an embassy. You do however need to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online at least three days before arriving. This is a simple online form that takes about ten minutes to fill and is available on the official Malaysian government immigration website. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel date and carry proof of confirmed return tickets and hotel bookings as immigration officers may ask for these.
Singapore requires a visa for Indian passport holders. As of 2026 the Singapore visa fee is approximately ₹2,100 with an additional service charge of around ₹1,000 if applying through an authorised agent. The Singapore visa is typically a straightforward application with a processing time of three to five working days. Documents required include your passport, confirmed flight and hotel bookings, bank statements and a cover letter. We handle the complete Singapore visa application for all our customers at BuildMyTrip.
The combination of free Malaysia entry and an easy Singapore visa makes this one of the most accessible international destinations for first-time travellers from India.
Best Time to Visit Singapore and Malaysia from Hyderabad
Both Singapore and Malaysia are equatorial countries — they are warm and humid throughout the year with temperatures consistently between 25°C and 33°C. Unlike Europe or the Himalayas there is no single best season and no destination that closes in winter. You can visit any month of the year.
That said, certain periods are more comfortable than others.
December to February is the peak tourist season and also one of the best months to visit. The weather on Malaysia's West Coast — which includes Kuala Lumpur — is at its driest and most pleasant. Christmas lights are up in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, shopping festivals run across both cities, and the overall atmosphere is festive. This is also when flights and hotels are most expensive and most in demand — book three to four months ahead if you plan to travel during this window.
May and June are excellent months from Hyderabad. School summer holidays in India align with this period making it a practical choice for families with children. The weather is warm but manageable, crowds at major attractions are moderate, and flight prices are reasonable if booked two to three months ahead.
September is a particularly good month for Indian travellers. Flights from Hyderabad are competitively priced, hotels are available at good rates, and the weather across both countries is comfortable. If you have flexibility in your travel dates, September offers one of the best combinations of value and experience.
The one period to approach with more planning is November — when the East Coast of Malaysia sees its monsoon season. This does not affect Kuala Lumpur or Singapore significantly but is worth knowing if you plan to visit beach destinations on Malaysia's East Coast.
Flights from Hyderabad to Singapore and Malaysia
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has excellent connectivity to both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur with multiple airlines operating daily flights.
For Singapore, direct flights are available with IndiGo and Air India from Hyderabad with a flight time of approximately five and a half hours. Connecting flights via Chennai, Bengaluru or Mumbai are also available on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Vistara and AirAsia. Return fares from Hyderabad to Singapore range from ₹18,000 to ₹35,000 per person depending on the airline, booking window and season.
For Kuala Lumpur, AirAsia operates very competitive direct flights from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur. IndiGo and Air India also serve this route. Return fares range from ₹15,000 to ₹28,000 per person.
The smart routing for a combined trip is to fly into Kuala Lumpur first — spend three to four days exploring Malaysia — then travel overland or by short flight to Singapore for the final three to four days, and return home from Singapore. This routing is logical geographically and often produces better total flight prices than flying into Singapore first.
Booking your flights two to three months in advance consistently produces the best prices for this destination from Hyderabad.
A Sample 6-Day Itinerary — Malaysia and Singapore from Hyderabad
The following is a suggested day-by-day structure for a 5-night 6-day trip — the most common duration for a combined Singapore Malaysia trip from Hyderabad.
Day 1 is arrival day in Kuala Lumpur. After landing and checking into your hotel, the evening is ideal for a gentle orientation tour of the city — the illuminated Petronas Twin Towers at night are one of the great first impressions in Asian travel. The area around KLCC Park at the base of the towers is excellent for an evening walk and dinner.
Day 2 is dedicated to two of Malaysia's most iconic experiences — the Genting Highlands and Batu Caves. Genting is a mountain resort sitting at over 1,800 metres above sea level, approximately one hour from Kuala Lumpur. The cable car ride up through jungle-covered mountains is spectacular. The temperatures at the top are significantly cooler than the city — bringing a light layer is recommended. Batu Caves is a Hindu temple complex built inside a series of limestone caves at the base of a dramatic cliff face. The 272-step climb to the main cave temple is worthwhile and the caves themselves are genuinely impressive. This is one of the most visited Hindu temples outside India.
Day 3 is the transfer day to Singapore. After breakfast, the journey to Singapore can be made by coach — approximately five hours through Malaysia's excellent highway network — or by a short forty-five minute budget flight. Most families travelling with BuildMyTrip choose the coach for the experience of crossing the Johor-Singapore Causeway, which is one of the busiest border crossings in the world. On arrival in Singapore, Gardens by the Bay makes an ideal first evening — the free outdoor gardens are extraordinary after dark with the supertree light show running twice nightly.
Day 4 in Singapore is typically dedicated to Universal Studios on Sentosa Island. This is a full-day experience and one of only seven Universal Studios parks in the world. The rides, shows and themed areas are genuinely world-class and a highlight of the trip for both children and adults. Pre-booking tickets online is strongly recommended — queues at the gate can be very long and online prices are consistently lower.
Day 5 is the Singapore city experience — Marina Bay Sands and the surrounding skyline, the colonial district around Raffles Hotel, the vibrant cultural neighbourhoods of Chinatown and Little India, and the incredible variety of food available at Singapore's famous hawker centres. This is also the best day for shopping along Orchard Road if that is of interest.
Day 6 is the departure day — breakfast at the hotel, any remaining shopping or sightseeing, and then the transfer to Singapore's Changi Airport for the return flight to Hyderabad.
What to Eat — The Food Guide
Food is one of the great joys of visiting Malaysia and Singapore and for travellers from Hyderabad the familiarity of flavours makes this even more enjoyable.
In Kuala Lumpur, the nasi kandar restaurants are a revelation — this is a Tamil Muslim food tradition of serving rice with a variety of curries that will feel genuinely familiar to Telugu palates. Banana leaf rice is available at hundreds of restaurants across the city. Roti canai — a flaky flatbread served with dhal and curry — is the most popular breakfast dish in the country and costs almost nothing. The Jalan Alor street food area in Kuala Lumpur operates every evening and is an essential experience — dozens of outdoor stalls serving a huge range of local dishes in a vibrant atmosphere.
In Singapore, the hawker centre culture is one of the city's great gifts to the world. Lau Pa Sat, Maxwell Food Centre and the hawker centres in Chinatown are among the most famous. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are excellent in both countries given the large Tamil and Malayali Indian communities resident in both Malaysia and Singapore.
What Does a Singapore Malaysia Trip from Hyderabad Actually Cost?
This is always the question and the honest answer has several layers.
A budget-conscious trip of 6 days covering both countries — economy class flights, clean three-star hotels, breakfast included, using public transport in Singapore and private vehicle in Malaysia — costs approximately ₹70,000 to ₹90,000 per person from Hyderabad with everything included.
A mid-range trip with four-star hotels, comfortable transfers throughout, Universal Studios entry, Genting day trip and a couple of nicer dinners costs approximately ₹90,000 to ₹1,20,000 per person from Hyderabad with everything included.
A comfortable premium trip with five-star hotels, private transfers throughout, all major attractions and a more relaxed pace costs ₹1,20,000 to ₹1,80,000 per person from Hyderabad.
The biggest variables are flights — which can range enormously depending on the booking window and season — and Singapore hotel prices which are significantly higher than Malaysia. Singapore is roughly three to four times more expensive than Malaysia for equivalent accommodation and dining. Budget accordingly and do not spend your entire trip budget in Singapore if cost is a concern.
One important note — Singapore is not a place where spontaneous budget decisions work well. Pre-booking everything from hotel rooms to Universal Studios tickets consistently saves significant money compared to booking on arrival.
